Favours are a form of currency between peers that can solidify relationsips: those asking favours make themselves vulnerable by mentioning a problem and asking for help, and they show how much they rely on our support. Asking for a favour is a show of trust because it reveals a position of relative weakness; and that can be used to grow stronger ties.

Favours work in pairs: you get one, you give one. Always give favours to those who ask, but remember to cash them in when you need - you'll be returning the favour of revealing a weakness and letting others support you.
