Change happens in three steps:
The first step is wanting things to be different.
The second step is accepting that change is not about what we want to achieve but about what we are willing to give up.
The third step is actively giving up what is in the way
By focusing on what we give up we change our perspective on the change. By acknowledging what we are giving up we focus on the hardest part, the part that is calling for us to give up.
To get my manuscript finished, I have to give up my lunch break.
To go to the gym before work, I have to give up 30 minutes of sleep.
To improve my design for this feature, I have to give up justifying my choices when I am given negative feedback.
