It's your turn to be the bad cop

In every team there are people who are the primary daily liaison with clients/partners, and it’s very important that they maintain good working relationships with them because they are wroking together, closely, every day and they need to have a trusting and collaborative relationship.

When a disagreement happens, let your team side with the client/partners, making you the bad guy if necessary, and escalate the resolution to you so that you can have the difficult conversations and the arguments.

If anything, it will give your team and the clients/partners a cause to rally together against a common enemy: not only will they maintain a good relationship, but it’s also a good way to get them to bond.
