People want to impress you. Tell them how.
Generally speaking, people like to impress each other: their family, their friends, their co-workers - and their manager in particular because that is what will get them praise and possibly career growth.
They are more likely to choose to spend time on what they know you care about, in order to get your attention and your recognition.
Whether it’s a particular behavior or a particular area of work that matters to you, make it clear it matters so it gets more of their time.
Conversely, since they will likely ignore what doesn’t seem important to you, make sure you make it visible what you care about – don’t wait for the wheel to squeak.
